The former mayor of New Jersey's largest suburb is set to be sentenced on federal corruption charges.

John Bencivengo is due to appear today in U.S. District Court in Trenton.

The former Hamilton Township mayor was convicted last November on extortion, money laundering and bribery-related counts. Bencivengo resigned as mayor of the Mercer County community the day after he was convicted, and now faces several years in prison.

A Toms River man who used to be an investigator with the state Division of Taxation was sentenced Tuesday for using his access to taxpayer accounts in state computers to steal $6,630, authorities said.

Joseph Stack, 62, was sentenced to three years of probation by state Superior Court Judge Mark J. Fleming, sitting in Trenton. He was ordered to pay $6,630 in restitution and will be permanently barred from public employment in the state, according to a statement from the state Attorney General’s Office.

The Food and Drug Administration is warning doctors and patients that a widely used antibiotic from Pfizer can cause rare but deadly heart rhythms in some patients.

The agency is adding new warnings to the label of Zithromax, which is commonly used to treat bronchitis, pneumonia and other infections.

The Parsippany police chief who retired March 1 with a $131,952-per-year pension benefit will also receive an approximately $375,000 payout in unused sick, vacation and personal days.

Anthony DeZenzo will get $375,456.60 after amassing 414 days off, according to an email from Cara Fox of the township clerk's office.

The email accompanied documents furnished after an Open Public Records Act request made by NJ.com.

Business Administrator Jasmine Lim said that beginning with a 1999 police contract, the township has restricted how many paid time-off days an officer can accrue.

Costco is proving Republicans and Wal-Mart wrong by paying workers a living wage while also earning record profits.

While Wal-Mart experienced February sales that were considered, a “total disaster,” Costco’s earnings for the second quarter of the year climbed 39%. The New York Times reported, “Costco Wholesale’s net income for its second quarter climbed 39 percent as it pulled in more money from membership fees, sales improved and it recorded a large tax benefit.”

Ocean County Republicans met at the Holiday Inn in Toms River with Gov. Christie speaking about his goals thi election season. 

He was introduced by none other than the head of the Ocean County Republicans, George Gilmore. Gilmore said he is hoping Ocean County this year can break the record number of votes in Ocean County for Christie that Ronald Reagan got for his second term in 1984. George Gilmore has been involved in the Republican Party since the Reagan years.

A lawyer's request that Jewish people be excluded from a jury that will hear a case of a suspected terrorist, accused of lying about plans to kill Americans in Afghanistan, was rejected today by a New York City judge.

"The judge denied my application," Frederick Cohn, the lawyer representing Abdel Hameed Shehadeh, told ABC News.com.

A jury has reached a verdict in the public corruption case of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, his father, and close friend. Kilpatrick was found guilty on 40 out of 45 counts. 

Kilpatrick was accused of running a criminal enterprise through the mayor's office to enrich himself through bid rigging and extortion, and using nonprofit funds for personal gain.

Kilpatrick, his father Bernard Kilpatrick and his contractor friend Bobby Ferguson faced a combined 45 charges accusing them of racketeering, extortion, bribery and mail fraud, among other things. Kwame Kilpatrick faced 30 counts, Ferguson faced 11 and Bernard Kilpatrick, Kilpatrick’s father, faced four.
