CEO roundtables. Social media marketing sessions. Afternoon prayers?

Bring your black yarmulke and your business cards to what is being billed as the city's first-ever, large-scale business conference for ultra-Orthodox Jews.

Organized by 34-year-old Borough Park-based entrepreneur Meny Hoffman, the one-day event, dubbed LTB Business Summit 2013 - LTB stands for Let's Talk Business - is taking place on Tuesday at Dyker Beach Golf Course in Brooklyn.

The idea is to offer resources and networking opportunities to members of the city's ultra-Orthodox community who may not have easy access to professional business education, guidance or tools.

Where Smart Entrepreneurs Go for Advice

Sure, it's lonely at the top, but even business demi-gods need advisers. Evernote's CEO offers some (partly tongue-in-cheek) tips on where to find them.
Question from an entrepreneur in his 30's: I have found that being a CEO is a  lonely job. Do you have someone you ask for advice? Have you ever received really beneficial advice?  If so, from whom?

Thank you for your question. Being a CEO is tough and lonely and it's often difficult to find people who understand our problems. For example, I find that the air conditioning in my Gulfstream G550 jet sometimes dries out the handmade Tuscan lip balm I have brought in by courier twice a week. Is there anything worse than brushing off the press in Davos with chapped lips? Sometimes I wonder why I even bother leaving my hyperbaric oxygen rejuvenation tent in the morning.

By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don't propose a federal budget. The President does.

A gold nugget with an estimated value of more than $300,000 has been unearthed near Ballarat in Victoria's western region in Australia.

An amateur prospector found the nugget weighing 177 ounces, or 5.5 kilograms, with a metal detector just outside Ballarat in a popular area for prospecting.

The owner of The Mining Exchange Gold Shop in Ballarat, Cordell Kent, said the find was one of the most significant in his 20 years in the business.

"Over that period the sum total of my finds would be just over 100 ounces (2.8 kilograms)," he said.

"We have 800 prospectors on our books and only a couple of those have ever found a nugget over 100 ounces.

Ocean County Budget From 1936-Same Old Problems

A 1936 Ocean County budget that was being shared on Twitter gives us a look back at a time when life was much more simple and honest. Or was it?

Of course the glaring difference between the one million dollar budget of yesteryear and our current 354 million dollar budget of today is obvious. But one item that seems to have been a constant is that pensions have always remained a large part of the budget in our state. The largest part of the budget was $86,945 for pensions. Today our pensions cost us upwards of 87 million.
For too long the taxpayer has suffered the requirement to give bloated pensions to our retired civil servants. Many of these "retirees" obtain second jobs in government while collecting pensions. Our own assemblyman David Rible retired at age 31 as a wall police officer due to a supposed back injury. He has since competed in many marathons and seems to be in perfect health.

Our own police chief will retire soon and receive a fat pension as well for his dedicated and selfless commitment to our town.

The main difference between government service now and in 1936 is there were much less parlor meetings with Greenwald'a delicious finger foods to eat before you got that big fat pension in 1936.

Once again, congratulations go to Lakewood's very own Blue Claws team. They have made the list once again as one of the top selling merchandisers of the minor league teams.

For 11 years now they have topped the list, selling millions of dollars worth of merchandise out of the beautiful 2000+ Square foot store that they operate out of the stadium that Lakewood Township built for them with 24 million dollars of UEZ money that was allocated solely for them.

Not only do they not pay any rent for the store, to add insult to injury they have removed the name Lakewood from most of their apparel and novelties. Most shirts and caps have the logo of the crab, and the word claws or blue claws.
