Hammering away at his oft-repeated theme of fiscal responsibility, Gov. Chris Christie told an audience of Lakewood seniors today that the practice of public officials banking sick time and then receiving large lump-sum payouts when they retire will cost New Jersey taxpayers $1 billion dollars. He spoke at The Fairways at Lake Ridge Clubhouse in Lakewood.

In New Jersey, you have to be paid for not getting sick, the governor said.

Our own Choef Lawson attempted to calculate his payout for his retirement. It amounted to 850 thousand dollars( the numbers are approximate). When he was told that the numbers didn't add up, he reduced his owed payout to 350 thousand dollars. Oops. That was a slight mistake.

Along with an exhorbitant salary, our police chief had been looking forward to fleecing our taxpayers one last time, and he was planning on doing it with a blessing from some of our more entrenched Township Committee members that stood alongside The Governor yesterday.

Efforts have been made to curtail the sick-time payouts. Legislators, acting on an initial proposal by the governor, passed a bill to cap payouts but Christie is demanding an all out ban.

The sick-time payouts, he said, were an example of why New Jersey is “out of control.”
I guess he can use our police chief as a prime example of why these payouts need to be stopped, whether they are legitimate, and especially when they are not.
