Is Our Own Committee Mostly A Bunch Of Boehners?

Speaker of the house John Boehner(Baynor) has come under fire, by Governors Christie and Cuomo, many members of the GOP as well as President Obama, for trying to pass over the 60 billion dollar Sandy relief bill. He has shown an unbelievable insensitivity to the people of this country. He has now become the poster child of the problems that the Republican Party and the entire political system faces. The image of a politician that cares only about himself, and those that put him into power. All other citizens be damned.

This latest political revelation is symbolic of the political atmosphere that We have been putting up with for over thirty years now.

Senator Bob Singer has perfected himself as a selfish politician par excellence. He has profited from his position as Mayor and Senator of Lakewood like no others before him. He has left us with debt, and no improvements to our district while our property taxes have been used to pay for his selfish desire to retain power.

And now the second generation of Singers have taken over the reins.

Ray Coles, Menashe Miller, Steve Langert, and Meir Lichtenstein have all benefited from their positions on the Township Committee all these years. Some more than others. Some legally and some illegally. True there are some that will try to help you when YOU need a favor. But they spend their days helping certain people get extraordinary favors that hurt us all. They do this because they receive a benefit from it. But when the time comes to do what is needed for the town to thrive, they become a bunch of Boehners.

In the coming weeks we will be discussing the Faulkner act. You may be asked to sign a petition to change over our form of government to a Mayor-council government. This would rid us of our current committee and allow us to elect our own Mayor. It would also split our town into five districts. Each district will have a councilman representing them to the Mayor. The councilman would be directly elected by his district only. A Mayor-council form of government would provide fair representation, empower the people to choose their representatives, and allow the entire town to have a voice. A Mayor elected by the people will have to listen to.. The people.
The time has come to get rid of our little Boehners, Steve Langert and Menashe Miller who perceive us as insignificant and simply want to stay in power to get what they want.

In all seriousness, what is the benefit of this system over our current system? People will vote for whoever the current establishment tells them to regardless of how the governing body is structured. How will this eradicate political cronyism? The people will be duped to vote for those who best serve the interest of the establishment. Mayor Miller, Lichtenstein, Coles, Langert et. al. were also elected "by the people". How would this system have prevented them from getting into office?

The only 'district' that this would empower would be the seniors. The rest of us should vote b'achdus with the yeshiva.

The benefit is that once there is a free election for mayor not based on the party system all influence will be diminished. Right now the political power is in the hands of the republican fundraisers that put Bob Singer and Langert into power. They are in collusion with Aaron Kotler to allow each other to get what they want. That leaves all of us paying for the favors they give each other.

Once anyone can run for mayor their influence is diminished. Imagine a race in which there are ten people running for mayor. One more honest than the next. I don't think Menashe, Steve or even Meir or Ray would want to run based on their record of doing absolutely nothing of substance all these years and allowing the town to be molested by selfish developers and organizations.
A whole group of candidates would stand up that have no allegiance to anyone other than their own conscience. And when they become corrupt from power we can say goodbye without having to listen to idiots tell us that we should have hakoros hatov for all they did for us.

If a person invites you for a delicious meal and then ties you up and beats you, do you leave their house bruised and battered with a smile on your face saying that was a great meal, I could have done without the beating , but I have gratitude for the great meal nevertheless.

There are many other reasons a mayor- council form works better than what we have. I will elucidate at a later time.

Hershel,

I think this is an awesome idea and everything you just said makes so much sense, but please, you need to educate the people in this town so they understand the benefits.

If you want this to work, then this is the only thing you need to do. please write articles and explain what this is and how this will help the town.

Keep strong, there are people that talk bad about you and politicians who won't want to be seen with you or mention your name, don't worry about them, keep strong in what your doing, your doing the right thing and don't get discouraged.

I and the rest of the town needs you.

Thank you
