As it was previously reported, there seems to be a scandal brewing regarding the no bid contract for Ashbritt to oversee the cleanup from hurricane Sandy. The initial 100 million dollar cost on top of other cleanup costs seemed fair, until the bill for individual towns started rolling in.
Lakewood was told to use Ashbritt to oversee debris removal. No reimbursement has come yet from the state, and our bill has topped 2 million dollars for this cleanup.

Although Lakewood had many downed trees, there is no way that the cleanup could possibly have cost 2 million dollars. Anyone who has ever had a tree removed knows that even the tallest oak that needs to be cut and hauled away does not cost more than a few hundred dollars. Ashbritt hauled away a few hundred downed trees at most. A local arborist estimated the cost should be more in the 500 thousand dollar range.
Somebody from our local government complied with the demands from Republican leader George Gilmore to hire Ashbritt to overcharge us for debris removal.
Hopefully we will be reimbursed once Governor Christie gets to us with the FEMA funds. But we will always be a partner in his crime for wasting taxpayer money.
