Lakewood Girls' High School Selection Begins Again -Letter From An Angry Mother

DEAR PROPRIETORS OF LAKEWOOD’S BAIS YAAKOV HIGH SCHOOLS:

Once again, you have seen fit to send out acceptance letters to most of Lakewood’s eighth grade girls. The “undesirable” minority will go to their graduations publicly degraded – everyone knows who they are.

You say there is no room, “the boat is full.” That’s exactly what the Swiss government said when denying refuge to Jews during World War II. Incongruous with a “poor” community such as Lakewood, your mosdos scream wealth and plenty. Surely you can find room for a few extra desks – even a new classroom – in those enormous, grand high school buildings of yours?

You say the unaccepted girls are “not tznius.” This may be true of a select minority, and being in the business of chinuch, they are also your responsibility. However, you have an evil practice of persecuting the less academic students, children of divorce, those who have difficulty paying tuition, and those whose parents you can blackmail before you grant them a precious seat in your mosad.

Young, fragile, impressionable children and their families are at your mercy. Their hopes for the future, their self-esteem, their sholom bayis, and their physical health are being sacrificed on the altar of your egotistic iron grip of power. It must take a lot of strength to overcome your genetic predisposition to be rachmanim b’nei rachmanim. Or perhaps we should examine your genealogy.

No one is fooled by your beard-stroking, yeshivish-talking imitation piety; not even your own employees or your own children. It only serves to remind us that you should know better. The Torah you appear to represent and impart in your schools does not condone your behavior.

Have yourselves an Evian conference and decide how to solve the problem of universal high school acceptance in a way that does not shame or destroy precious bnos yisroel. Treat them as you would your own beloved, superior, deserving children. Stop feigning innocence and blaming others; do the right thing.

I am not saying that I have a better idea, but if anyone out there is willing to open a school and deal with all that comes along with it, go ahead and let me know how you will deal with these issues. I really don't have any tainos on the high school heads as they are in a very tough spot. I don;t think that they are in it for fame or fortune and definitely not for kovod as all they get is slandered and defamed on all the blogs. I ask everyone else, what would YOU do in their spot?

I will tell you what I would do. I would stop being phonies and hypocrites in general and then maybe the girls and boys growing up in the Lakewood community who are being molested and abused and treated with disrespect and like dirt and liars would NOT have to live like that and they would actually have a safe and normal childhood. Maybe then most of the class would be on an even playin field by the time they graduate and the hanhalah would NOT be in the position they are in!

They pretend that Lakewood is a Utopian society and it is far from it! It is a hypocritical society and therefor it has way more problems and issues than they are prepared to handle. They choose rather to get rid of the "garbage" than to recognize that Hashem does NOT make junk! And if they would only apply the Torah that they preach they would recognize that they are responsible for the outcome of the children of their systems and their achrius is to each and very one of them because they either succeeded or failed them and if they failed them then they are still THEIR achrius. Get it? These children are still a product of their environment, the Lakewood society and yeshiva systems!

So where were these great mechanichim a year or two ago when these kids really needed them? Why weren't they at the ready to help them when they were first stepping into their critical situations? Why weren't they there to support and guide them? Isn't that the Torah way? Are they only here to judge them and criticize? Do they only spit on them and show them the door?

Remember this, these are usually the ones that turn out to be the askanim in h future. These are usually he ones they come knocking on their doors later on for money for those ho were their chosen Golden Boys and Girls. They are the ones these people turn to for support in the future.

Will you be asking then "what should these askanim do when these same people threw them out without a heart or a care?" Chew on that for a while!

No one takes achrayus. Enter lakewood at your own risk. It's the wild west, every man for himself. There are no leaders, no one stands up for truth or for those in need. Unless they can get a lot of $ and/or good publicity for standing.up for those in need.

They couldnt care less about being slandered on blogs. It makes them feel good that people talk about them. After all, they have a product to sell & they want everyone to think their school is something special & exclusive. As for "fortune", there's a lot of government funding to be had. And lots of tax-free income from chasuna halls. And their homes are tax-free "parsonage". And we taxpayers foot the bill for all of their garbage pickup etc.

It is people like you that cause all the problems. You judge girls by then position of their pony tail. You make the newer schools struggle for credibility. They are all the same. Whatever small problems you find in a new school you have ten times as bad in the old ones. They just cover it up better. People like you make all the trouble. And make people like me have Difficulty getting into any school.

Use your thick head to write that thick book. Then write another book about all the BMG yungerleit with siblings that are the o.t.d.
When your done with both of those books, adjust your medication so you can get that stockboy job.

It is so sad to see the constant loshon hora, rechilus, and moitze shem ra, let alone the out and out sina that is spewed forth on this blog. All of you just sit here at your computer and curse everyone out. You might think everyone who doesn't agree with you or take your kid into their school is a first class rasha, and without getting into that, you are not any better by doing what you do. You are definitely not helping to bring moshiach....

It is impossible to open a girls h.s. in lakewood without a lot of $. The old-timers have access to lots of govt funding, i.e. title one funding & hundreds of thousands of $ for computers, etc., which they don't want to share with any new school. Any new school would have to start with only girls who could not get into any other school, which creates low morale & a bad reputation. Remember Rabbi Gelly's school & the Newhouses?

As for l,oshon hora, it doesnt apply here - these are reshoim who don't just "not take your kid into their school." They are nasty ("you daughter is a bargaining chip") & dont deserve the kovod & riches which they reap from being "mechanchim." No one is besmirching them casually for NO REASON. You can bury your head in the sand & pretend it isnt true, or that they have no choice but to do business this way. Yet so many girls have been hurt by them & even tho these girls are long out of school & have families of their own, they have not gotten over the way they were treated. Until these reshoim ask mechila berabim, they are not forgiven, & one is permitted to expose their wrongdoings, which eat away at the very fiber of this torah community.

I would venture to say that you are as big a "rasha" as you say they are for talking with such hatred and sina. If you have an idea of how to fix the unperfect system, go ahead and try it. To call people reshaim is not something that should be done lightly as you do. I would watch what you say.

I don't want to put anyone down, but with an attitude such as the one depicted in this letter, who would this guy's children in their school? And why are you trying to get children into schools run by such deplorable people? If you can't appreciate what Lakewood has to offer, which is plenty contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of beautiful communities out there. High school principals must do their best to accomodate every precious neshamah, which for the most part they are, the onus is on all of us who haven't opened up a high school...

to all those who feel sorry for the "poor" bais yaakov high school owners in lakewood:
Name me one who doesnt own an apartment in Yerushalayim where they spend yomim tovim & several weeks in the summer.
That is, incidentally, where you'll find them right before school starts when there are girls still not placed.
NOt to mention the apartments they bought for their kids.
PLease dont be fooled! This is absolutely not loshon hora! There has to be full disclosure of who these people are & how they destroy lives.

Come to Eretz Yisrael...

I pay ~600 Shekel a month for my daughter (7th) ~1000 Shekel for each of my boys (9th and 11th grade) and the little kids are free...
So for all 6 kids I pay ~$8000 per year... and I have 3-5 good schools in the area to choose from.

If I lived in America I'd spend my entire salary on tuition...

The solution is to encourage the opening of new schools.
The more schools the more competition for students.
Why should these solons of Lakewood (and other established Jewish communities) enjoy near monopolies.
Also, if Lakewood is a phony place, then move out and go to some other place. Join a community in some other place. Perhaps it won't be so yeshivish, and there will be less amenities, but at least you'll be able to find some normal people who are struggling to make it just like you. Maybe you and your family will be more accepted among normal hard-working people, instead of Rabbis and Rebbitzins who flaunt their yicchus
