It seems like only yesterday that Isaac Akerman called me up and asked me if I cared if he ran as an independent against Committeman Bob Singer, and if I could help him. Of course this was after I had lost in the primary to our then double dipping Senator/Commiteeman and I could not run again in the same election. My goal (as it is now) was to remove the old corrupt system more than to become a part of it. I did not know Isaac and I didn't have much trust in political players after being lied to and used by the Shmukler, Seitler LAC duo. I asked Isaac why he wanted to run. He said very simply "I want to try to help do good for the town". That was the best answer I could expect and I thought anything would be better than Bob Singer. Perhaps if he won he can be strong enough to resist the corrupt committee members and be a voice of truth on the committee. I drove him to the County Clerk, he signed the papers, got him the signatures at Satmar and officially announced that he was running in the general election against Singer.

After winning with a narrow victory against me, Bob Singer was in no mood to lose in his own town agains Akerman. He dropped out off the race and brought Isaac into the Republican Party. Isaac won the election without pandering to the VAAD. The next two years he spent being a lone voice on the committee. Left out of the loop, but all too aware of what was going on.

I must say that I am proud to have had a small hand in getting Isaac into office. What started out as a joke, a lark on my part, had an end result that brought Isaac to become Mayor. And he will god willing make a great Mayor. He now understands what the town needs to grow responsibly. He will be the first Mayor to take action to help stop the cycle of favors for favors that is quickly destroying the fabric of our communities.

Isaac will be taking the helm of a sinking township that has been battered by irresponsible debt, lack of infrastructure, overdevelopment, a corrupt Senator and assemblyman, an ineffective police chief, and a mismanaged public works department. Not to mention all the people that will be expecting the favors they have received until now.

Isaac is the only person I can think of that can rise to these challenges with his usual self effacing wit and ability to find a solution.

Good luck Isaac.
