Our Voice Was Heard-Taxpayers Saved (for now)

As reported here a week ago, there was a proposed 4.5 million dollar increase to the school budget which was voted down last night. But Chesky Seitler who has branded himself as the savior to the taxpayer an ran to be on the school board based solely on reducing taxes was not even there to vote.

The entire budget increase was kept quiet until we were tipped off to it. Even after we revealed the exorbitant increase in the budget, none of the LAC members felt compelled to alert the public about a school budget that would increase an average property tax bill by 300 dollars a year. Spearheaded by board member Joel Schwartz who took the initiative to pressure the few board members present at the meeting, the budget was voted down. Now Mr. Schwartz will proceed to repair the damage done by Seitler and company. He will be working tirelessly to petition the state to obtain more funding for the parts of our budget that are legally mandated. In other words he will be doing the work that our representatives should have done long ago.

I happened to have spoken to Mr Schwartz this morning regarding last night's vote. He said the members that were present understood the issues on their own and each one voted independently. Although he never made mention of any spearheaded effort he did acknowledge that our locally elected State representatives seem to be turning a blind eye towards the Lakewood District and its taxpayers and he is ready to petition the State on behalf of Lakewood.

Why did not ALL the BOE members attend on such a very important issue as the budget , as far as I am concerned they are not qualified if they cannot meet their obligation of a simple thing like showing up !!!!!

If you really know what's going on with state aid you will see that because our board did not raise taxes by the 2 percent threshold set by Christie, the district lost out on 4.3 million dollars of state aid. Lakewood fell $900,000 short. Ty Seitler for using your infinite wisdom to make this happen.

S Yehoshua, whoever you are you are right on the money. That is exactly why Carl Fink recommended to the board to vote it down to cover up the mistake Seitler made last year. Now you know why Chesky Seitler was a no show at the budget meeting. He is not man enough to show up and face the music.
