Ringing in the new year was the sound of gunshots in many parts of the country.
In Sacramento Ca. two people were killed as gunfire erupted at a fireworks show.
Minutes before the new year arrived a man was shot dead in Richmond Va.
In Camden Nj the all too familiar shooting death of a young man happened minutes after midnight. In our own Lakewood NJ a man was shot in true cowboy fashion behind the Best Western motel on Rte 70.
All these shootings have taken on a special urgency as everyone is beginning to see that something needs to be done to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, the mentally Ill or irresponsible owners, while ensuring that those that wish to own a gun for protection still have the right to do so. 2013 looks like it will be the year that sweeping changes will be seen in regards to gun sales and ownership. There will be much controversy but hopefully the end result will be less cheap guns in the hands of criminals.
