A backpack was found unattended that caused the closure of two streets in downtown Lakewood. But the contents of the suspect device were much less sinister than police thought; a half of a coconut with a live bird inside.

The bird appeared to be a young dove, so young that it was unable to fly. Police believe the backpack with the bird some toys and some food were left by a child attempting to care for the bird. The backpack was spotted in front of the post office on Clifton Avenue, police said.Township police shut down Clifton Avenue between Main and First streets and brought in the Sherrif department's bomb and K-9 units to inspect. Imagine their surprise to hear the little chirping sounds of a little bird. There was no identification to lead them to the owner.

An officer on the scene offered to care for the bird until it can be released into the wild. No word on who is eating the half a coconut.

Then I'm going after the honorees who assemble lists of acquaintances that generate $136 (total) worth of journal ads.
