Two East Ramapo school board members who unexpectedly resigned Tuesday said they did so because it had become “exceedingly difficult” to work in the district due to a lack of information from the superintendent and continuous intimidation from fellow board members.

Stephen Price and Suzanne Young-Mercer submitted their resignation letters to District Clerk Cathy Russell on Monday. The resignations were announced at Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, which Young-Mercer and Price did not attend.

In an interview with The Journal News on Wednesday, Young-Mercer said she and Price were “spinning their wheels” and saw no reason to remain on the board. She said she had been thinking about stepping down since last fall but she and Price made the decision to resign together only in the past few weeks.

Burying Power Lines-Would You Pay More?

Since hurricane Sandy there has been much debate whether we should be asking our utility companies to bury the power lines underground. Many have been saying that this would prevent the outages that typically happen whenever there is a severe weather event.

Of course it would be aesthetically pleasing to not have to see wires everywhere, and there would be less poles to crash cars into. But what would it cost to bury all the electrical service in our area?

Most experts estimate the average cost for a city with our density to be around 1 million dollars per mile.
Many experts say that if it’s a million dollars a mile, you’d have to have 50 hurricanes before it would start to pay for itself.

Everyone loves to hate their property tax bill, but now there’s a novel way to reduce it.
Some towns are considering offering shop local cards. People can get the card, buy from shops in their hometown, and then they get to accumulate credits against their property tax bill.

There’s a township in New Jersey that may be the first in the country to have done this.

Marlboro Township Offers Property Tax Credit For Shopping Locally.

From an email sent out by Larry Simons to Lakewood residents. Larry is a well known advocate in the senior community.

Are you dissatisfied with Lakewood's current political system?

Wouldn't you prefer to directly vote for your Mayor rather than having the members of the Township Council make that decision for you-- without your presence as is currently done?

Winter Blast Continues-Commitee Clueless What To Do

As predicted, a cold winter blast has taken over the east coast. Even Lakewood, famous for its milder winter temperature, is now struggling to get out of the teen temps during the day. And what has our township committee done about these dangerously low conditions? Absolutely nothing. Menashe Miller did not even offer a big flag to cover someone that is shivering. Did Lichtenstein or Coles make an announcement about what the Democratic Party plan on doing about the (ironically named) global warming above the Arctic Circle that is supposedly causing this chill? Did Meir and Menashe even take one helicoper ride to Alaska to see where the cold is coming from? Why didn't Langert offer to put Townhouses on the Arcric Circle(as a silent partner of course) to stop us from freezing while we try to go about our daily business? And where is Akerman hiding? Normally he would be bringing space heaters to anyone that complains. Now he is probably all cozy in his warm Mayor office on the Taxpayer dollar.
Which brings us to Bob Singer. In Thirty years he has done nothing to keep us warm and toasty. He gives all his friends hand Warmers and earmuffs while we get frost bitten.
I hope we can all work together to stay warm in the next few days. Hopefully we can work hard to find people that are dedicated public servants so our children can have a warm future.
Seriously, do your best to keep warm. Cover up and stay indoors as much as possible.

(ABC News)

It's what we expect as shoppers—what's in the food will be displayed on the label.

But a new scientific examination by the non-profit food fraud detectives the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP), discovered rising numbers of fake ingredients in products from olive oil to spices to fruit juice.

"Food products are not always what they purport to be," Markus Lipp, senior director for Food Standards for the independent lab in Maryland, told ABC News.

Weberman- Conflict And Power by YH

There is little to feel good about the103 year sentencing of Nechemiah Weberman. Although, if guilty he deserves serious time, 103 years seems overly excessive. Had he killed her instead of allegedly molesting her he would likely have been handed a much lighter sentence.

Throughout the entire saga of the Weberman story it has become increasingly difficult to grasp onto something to feel certain about.

We, the Jewish public, whom like any public crave most of all to digest a story that is complete, somehow felt robbed of that satisfaction. Though the trial ended with certainty; guilty on all counts, there’s been a lack of hard evidence and only rumors of other victims put forth by blogs and individuals.
